Community
Neighborhoods with meandering trails that encourage walking and bicycle riding. Local parks where children can play and moms and dads can socialize. Schools and shopping centers brimming with stores and restaurants, in many cases just a short distance from homes. Plentiful job centers. Thousands of acres of permanently preserved open spaces. These are the hallmarks of the Villages of Irvine, and they play a major role in the villages' reputation as models of green design and living. In fact, in 2009 the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) was so impressed by Irvine's ongoing green-planning efforts that it included the city in its fourth annual "smarter cities" ranking, for overall standard of living. In compiling its prestigious list, NDRC studies cities' efforts to become more efficient, responsible, sustainable, and, as a consequence, "smarter places" for businesses to operate and healthier places for people to live.
The city of Irvine's goal is to create sustainable communities that are good for both people and the environment. When homes are designed and constructed using fewer resources, the result is healthier, more livable communities. This will not only benefit your family and your neighborhood, but it will make life better for all Californians.
