Indoors and out, the Villages of Irvine is an urban oasis designed to accommodate every lifestyle. Within the realm of these carefully curated communities are some of the best parks and open spaces Orange County has to offer. With an average of 280 days of sunshine per year, the parks of Irvine provide the perfect atmosphere for anyone looking to enjoy nature and the great outdoors. Here are some activities that everyone can enjoy.

Rollerblade or Bike at Jeffrey Open Space Trail

Irvine Valencia Growers Mural on Floor

The award-winning Jeffrey Open Space Trail offers the perfect opportunity to go rollerblading or biking. With tunnels and bridges connecting the villages, this scenic route of paved and gravel road provides an uninterrupted experience for family and friends to spend time together while enjoying some mood-boosting exercise. As you cruise along this path, divided into three parts, there’s plenty to see. For a history lesson, stop at the tiled monuments or stone benches that share details about the history of Irvine and the Irvine Ranch. You’ll also notice a public art installation of timber posts along the way as well as colorful mosaic art that both honor the Irvine Valencia Growers. Complete with rest stops and restrooms, the developers of this park have truly thought of it all with the local community in mind. Don’t be surprised if you see a proposal or photoshoot taking place. It’s truly a special place.

Read a New Book at Jeffrey Open Space Trail

For some personal time, rest and recreation, enjoy reading a book at the beautifully landscaped Jeffrey Open Space Trail. This peaceful, serene atmosphere is the ideal place for fresh air and solitude. Bring food for a picnic and enjoy the relaxing scenery of this dreamy space. A few deep breaths and some yoga stretches will facilitate a sense of renewal. If you’re feeling energetic instead, use this inspiring backdrop to work on that next great creative or business idea. Allow the rewarding beauty of nature to guide you along.

Host a Birthday Party at Irvine Park Railroad

For a celebration, host your child’s birthday party at Irvine Park Railroad. There are endless options to customize this memorable experience as this 491-acre park is a treasure trove of family fun. The train ride, for instance, offers a full tour of the park while also teaching about its history. The park also includes a zoo that showcases animals in their natural habitats. A petting zoo is also available for those wanting an opportunity to see some of the barnyard animals such as sheep, chickens, and goats up close and personal. Pony rides are also available. For an extended adventure at the park, head over to the lake where paddle boat rentals are available. Last but not least, Irvine Park Railroad hosts a number of events throughout the year including the annual Pumpkin Patch, Christmas Train, and Easter Eggstravaganza. Fun times all year round.

Play with Fido at Central Bark Dog Park

Central Bark Dog Park is an off-leash park that boasts three acres of open space dedicated entirely to the dogs of Irvine. There’s plenty of room for pet parents to play catch, Frisbee, or simply relax as they watch their fur baby have a blast with his furry friends. There are separate play areas for small and large dogs as well as a watering facility. During the bright, sunny day, there are covered seating areas while at night the park is well lit. On Wednesdays, however, the park is closed for general maintenance and upkeep, making sure your pup consistently has the very best play area Irvine has to offer.

Try Model Boat Sailing at Mason Regional Park

Mason Regional Park

For anyone looking to learn something new, try model boat sailing at the expansive Mason Regional Park. This 9-acre lake offers a fun opportunity for anyone interested in learning radio control sailing. Being a spectator is okay, too. Just sit back, relax, and see what it’s like to be a skipper. The park hosts regular races that provide endless hours of entertainment and the Orange County Model Sailing Club is a great place to meet some of the skippers and other enthusiasts. For more adventure at this tranquil, 339-acre park, there’s an 18-hole championship golf course at Strawberry Farms Golf Club and a wilderness trail where hikers can experience the local wildlife.
